New Intern at Crete PD

Crete Police Department will welcome its first intern this Friday.

23-year-old Joshua Hafner of Arizona is currently a student at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais and, starting February 19, will be spending Fridays and Saturdays with the Crete PD.

“Olivet Nazarene University (ONU) contacted us and asked if we would be interested in doing an internship program,” says Crete Chief of Police Scott Pieritz. “ONU has a great, progressive criminal justice program rooted in a moral foundation. It’s something I always wanted our department to be involved in, so we were happy to help out.”

According to Chief Pieritz, Mr. Hafner will rotate around the department, participate in ‘ride-alongs’, work with detectives, and visit the Laraway Communications Center dispatch in Joliet.

“We feel it is a good opportunity to help future law enforcement recruits get an understanding of police work and everything involved with serving the community,” Chief Pieritz adds.

Mr. Hafner will be an intern with the Crete Police Department Fridays and Saturdays, 8am-4pm, until the end of this semester (April), and Chief Pieritz is open to have more interns join the department in the future.

“I had a great internship experience with the Kankakee Police Department many years ago. It left a big impression on me and cemented my dedication to a profession in law enforcement. I would like our department to offer students that same opportunity to observe police work, and to pass on our experiences, knowledge, and perspectives to the next generation of peace officers.”
