The Crete Fire Department received a grant to conduct aerial imagery at businesses and schools throughout town. This will enable both fire & police to develop a pre-fire/emergency plan and strategy. Pre-emergency plans help first responders provide faster, more efficient service to the people who live in, work or visit local businesses and schools. Pre-fire plans help responders identify important areas of buildings (such as gas and power shutoffs), locate connections for fire sprinkler systems and operating panels for fire alarms, and address special needs of the building occupants or the unique type of operations that occur in a facility.
We plan to begin the on-going pre-fire/emergency plan process in the next week or two. Specially trained drone pilots from FLOW MSP will set up equipment and fly the drone around the building(s) to capture the images the emergency responders need to develop the preplan. Drone pilots have been issued a letter signed by the fire chief which authorizes the pilot to fly the drone. Drone pilots will keep this letter with them while conducting activities. Crete Fire Department members may be working with the drone pilots or may be flying the drone themselves.
