Recycling Collection Tips

With the implementation of bi-weekly recycling collection we have encountered some start-up problems that I would like to address in an effort to make things run as smooth as possible. Without getting too specific about the problems, here are a few helpful hints for both garbage as well as recycled pickup. First you must have your toters out by 7:00 am on the day of pickup, both garbage and recycled. Failure to do so could mean a missed pickup. Please put the toter directly behind the curb, not in the street, with the open end of the toter facing the street and a foot or more of space between each toter. This is the optimal position for the automated dumper to work from. The recycle truck can come hours apart from the garbage truck, so patience needs to be practiced on some days. Unless you have some large articles, try to fit all material in the appropriate container. Finally, remember that during the summer there will be an additional truck coming around to pick up landscape waste. If you think they have missed you during the pickup process please call 708-385-8252 and report your problem. They will likely make arrangements to get it the following day. Thanks for your cooperation and patience as this new program is rolled out.
